Long Tom Classic?
« on: November 19, 2004, 02:49:48 AM »
Hey guys you will probably know the answer to my question.  Local gun shop has a "Long Tom Classic" on the rack.  High polish 12 bore barrel, cased frame, cresent butt also cased, steel guard and fore arm iron.  Walnut stock and forearm with checkering.  Looks like a Buffalo Classic with a 12 bore barrel.  Marked "Wesson and Harrington" on the frame.
Are these still being made or is this a discontinued model?  The guy is asking $179, is this good/bad?  He's notorious for not coming down, so I'd probably let it sit for a couple more months before trying to make an offer, unless this is a really hot price already, I don't know.

Doubletap,
Can't tell you exactly if a Wesson and Harrington Long Tom Classic was ever produced.... But I own a Harrington & Richardson Long Tom 12 that came down thru my family....Straight stock, checkered w/ real nice wood, metal trigger guard, case hardened frame with a 32" Barrel...

What are the first Two Letters on the reciever.... Somewhere here on the NEF GB forum there is a list with letters and the dates when H&R/NEF's   were produced.... That might help ya solve the mystery....

As far as the BC with the  Wesson and Harrington name that's still produced, as is the 32" Full bore 12gauge barrel from the factory barrel sheet... could be someone married a BC reciever with a 32" barrel and decided to sporterize the BC Barrel... Stranger thing have happened on this forum

BTW that 32" - 12gauge would make for a nice Turkey gun...I'd like to see NEF come out with it as a Smoke Pole 12gauge, maybe even with choke tube, Aaaah some fiber optic sites and scope mount... Later, MTNMAN

Went back and looked this thing over again today.  It's a newer post H&R gun, from after the NEF-H&R split.  Barrel is roll marked "Long Tom Classic".  Didn't measure the barrel but it's got to be close to 32" at least, was sitting across the racks from a couple used NEF Pardner's with 28 and 30" barrels and it's markedly longer.  I'll have to check the serial and see if I can figure the year of production. Thanks for the tip!
Darn thing feels pretty good coming up to the shoulder, might make a fun day pheasant whacker when the walk with the dogs is more important than bringing birds home.  Somehow I'm begining to think this thing may have found a new home.

BUFFALO CLASSICPart #
 Description Price
W45 45/70 Gov't., 32"
 103.00
(Dovetailed for front sight and drilled and tapped for rear sight, sights not included.)

Plus the price of the 12Ga., and you have a 45-70 and the 12 for the retail value of a Buffalo Classic...plus you could add a ML Barrel and a whole bunch of other shotgun barrels in you like.... If it feels right buy it ... MTNMAN

That"s outrageous price gouging! I can't believe some one would try to get that kind of money for that old gun! I think you should give me the name and phone number of that shop show I can give them a piece of my mind!

Seriously though it's not a terrible price and if you don't want it pm me the shop info , I might be interested.

The local gun shop I was at today has a 10 ga. Long Tom Classic, for sale. It is used but looks in great shape, for $129.00 and that includes taxes. If anyone is interested, let me know and i'll get a hold put on it and get it sent to your FFL.

That sounds like it might be a good candidate for the Christmas gun this year. What length barrel is it and what kind of stock. Pm the shop info if you don't mind and I'll bother them with all the questions. Thanks

Thanks, It sounds like a nice shotgun, I am sure many here would like to have it. If it's still available I nominate Markus, he works pretty hard around here as moderator and deserves a nice gun like that. He was the first to speak up and thats how this place has run, and run well, so far....<><....

in my 2002 standard catalog of firearms it is listed at $250 in exc. and 300 NIB. about 1,000 were made each year. was introduced in 1996 and was a limited edition. 32" full choke barrel cheackered black walnut stock and cresent buttplate. probly a decent collectors gun i'd say

Wesson & Harrington, Harrington & Richardson, New England Firearms...all the same company, same guns, made in the same plant, by the same people, parts interchange. So, is a Pardner better or worse than a Topper? OR, ore they the same!!!....<><....
