Not to change the subject, but I also handload for my 30-30 handis. One is a pre-bancruptcy mid 1980's the other a 1994 NEF.
I have used Barnes 130's in the former and Barnes 140's in the latter. I have found these to be the most accurate bullets in my handis but have not dabbled much in the poly-tip offerings. My practise loads are the Hornady 130 grain SSSP's
The older rifle will turn up 2600+ fps with the 130 grain Barnes and the NEF will hit 2575 fps with the 140 grain. These loads have dispatched every whitetail I have hit with them. I have yet to recover a bullet as I get complete pass thru's with the Barnes bullets. I use a healthy dose of W748 in WW cases with either Rem 9 1/2M or CCI 250 primers. When I have tried to go higher in velocity, I have noticed signs on the case of increased pressure, so have stopped at the above indicated velocities. I have a Chrony that I use to check velocity.
