416 Taylor Pics
« on: October 22, 2004, 02:48:13 AM »
Just got my 416 Taylor about 2 weeks ago. So far recoil is pretty mild, but I haven't worked up FULL POWER loads yet, but it shouldn't be that bad. 400gr bullets doing 2150fps and 350 due 2350, I plan on adding about another 150fps to each bullet.

Rifle is a VZ-24 action, 23" Douglas #5 contour barrel, crossbolt laminated stock, hinged fp., new trigger and safety and a 2 1/2x Leupold on board. Weight is right at 9 1/2 pounds with scope on board.

Nice.  Who did the checkering on the laminated stock?  Where in NW Florida.  I'm over near Destin and shoot at the Hurlburt field range.

Not sure on the checkering, it came that way. I bought the rifle cheap basically as is in 35 Whelen and had the conversion to 416 done, with the addition of a recoil pad.

I live just outside Marianna, not too far from you. Haven't been to Destin since early summer (Bass Pro shop). Hope you faired ok in Ivan.

Steelhead,

That is a beauty of a rifle.  The 416 Taylor is one of my favorites.  It makes for a nice light hunting package.

One of my favorites rifles is a Browning BLR, an old steel actioned 7mm Mag, that I converted to 375-338 Win Mag (essentially a 375 Taylor).

I have another of those steel receivered 7mm Mag BLRs laying around and I am debating if I should make it into a 458 Win Mag, into a 416 Taylor or trading it for one of the 300 WSM BLRs for a different project.

Anyway, great looking rifle and if you need a load or two... let me know...
