222 Rem Mag Ackley Improved
« on: July 22, 2003, 06:41:11 PM »
Got a new toy, 18 inch Bellm contender bull barrel.  Anyone got any loading data?  Got dies, brass and ready to roll, looking for pet loads from other users.

I've just now started developing loads. Finally got through the fireforming process using IMR4350 and 55gr bullets seated out to the lands.

Just fireforming, most groups at 50yds were boring one hole. I'm looking forward to seeing how it does at 200, when I get my loading worked up.

I used mid range loads for the standard 222 mag for starting loads and started going up from there.

Thanks for the info,
Please keep me in mind when you get your loads worked out.  I have 100 rounds of fireforming loads ready to go, just gotta get to the range to pop them off.  I went with starting loads for 222 mag with 4198 as I had a pile of it around.

222 mag AI

I have a savage/shillen barrel in 222 mag ai i have pushed 40 gr nosler bt,s from 3400 fps. (24gr, h-322) to 3800 fps.( 28gr h-322)brass shows no pressure signs and brass lasts quite a few loadings.i,m sure these are high end loads.  i have had great luck with that powder, as well as varget. i have pushed 35gr. v-max,s to 3950, they pile into the same hole at 100 yds. it,s a very explosive bullet going that fast.

I finally found my load, at least to this point. I am using 30 gr. of WC844 surplus (H335 equivalent, from what vendor says), CCI 450 primers, with Rem 50gr. HP core-loks.

I will be fine tuning my scope for 100 and 200 yards this weekend, but so far this load punches 1/4-1/2 inch groups at 50 yards.

I've got some coyotes this next week that I want to show this to.

I would back it down a little and work back up. This will probably be my maximum even though I feel I can go a bit higher. I have been told the 222mag AI will take a 10-15% higher powder charge with out any problems. The 30gr charge is just a hair under the 10%. We'll see how it works.

Good Shooting

I'm glad to see some more posts on the triple deuce improved!!!  I may have replied to some of your posts already, but I didn't look at the name earlier???  I am not finished fire-forming yet, but have found my best load so far with IMR 4320 (28 grains under a Sierra 52 grain HPBT).  I have also tried H-322 and IMR 4198.  I am looking forward to loading the improved cases!!!
