I know I am a handi holic now. I am asking question about a barrel I dont even have yet. But I have traded for one and it should be here soon. Seems it had some accuracy woes according to the owner.
Here is where you guys come in. What is the twist in Handi 308? What are the best weight bullets to shoot. Cabelas has reman 165 and 168gr 308 for about 45.00. Seemsit would have to be better than surplus. Speaking of which, is there a good surplus to use so I can get some trigger time in for cheap?? Who remanufactors the Cabelas stuff and is it good? Thanks and Iam sure more will follow.

My .308 Ultra likes Federal 150 grain Nosler ballistic tips. I know, not cheap. I tried some cheapo Sellier and Bellot ammo that was nothing but trouble. About half of the shells would not eject and my shot groups were all over the place. I would be cautious about the Wolf ammo, as well. Since then I have shot Fedreal, Remington, and Winchester without incident. I wonder how the US military surplus ammo would shoot and if it would eject.

The suplus at Miwayusa is Austrailian I believe. Good reviews so I hear.

www.gibrass.com has unfired GI pulldown brass for cheap. The fired brass has generally been shot in loose chambers, and can cause sticking problems.

I am quite fond of Remington bulk for shooting ammo. It's the cheapest stuff going and will shoot with the best in some rifles.

In my last Bull barreled 308...I couldn't get the cheap surplus ammo to eject or group worth a durn...however...the Federal 168 grain match was outstanding...and here's a kick for you...out that gun that I sold my neighbor...the Winchester power point 150 grainers are shooting as good...he showed me his site in target last week...5 shots right at 1/2" for on sale $7.50 a box ammo...

Hey Mac: Please tell me where I can get those 150 Wins for that price. That would br great to use as I use the 150 pp super x in my 30.06. The 308 may like them as well. Give me the website where he got them please!!!!!!

my son's .308 ultra likes rem 150-grain core-lokts and the old hornady factory load with 165-grain flat base bullets. those are the only two we've tried. both are 1.5 inch at 100 yards. the core-lokt has bagged a six-point.

with a 1:10 twist, i would say bullets over 150gr would be ideal in factory loads. I've used Rem corelokts, hornady sst's in 150 gr, and winchester fail safes, with good success (<1.5" at 100 yds).

My neighbor got a couple of boxes of these at Walmart...they have a clearence shelf were they also sell other things as well... that's what he said he picked them up for......it's always a good idea to check various local sporting goods stores as well...lots of the smaller shops and even some of the larger ones will dump as much of their overstock right after deer seasons are over...and every now and they'll run a good sale before..my gun dealer ran a big sale right before deer season...if I remember right they were around $9.00 a box...so you can find them cheap...
