I have discovered the strangest thing, when shooting off-hand.  I always tried to shoot with both eyes open, and as I have got older it gets harder.

I am constantly critiquing my stance, posture, hold, breathing, trigger...etc.  My scores have fallen and been eating the dirt lately, so I decided to get back to the basics and relearn how to shoot.  In doing this I cut a piece of foam rubber 2x4 inch square, with a hole for the scope piece.  I then slip this piece over the back end of my scope, and this helps me focus on the target and reduces distraction for my left eye ( I am right eye dominant, and right handed).

After playing around with this setup I noticed that I was scrunching up my left eye as I shot. This seemed weird, I was keeping the eye open but I was really squinting with it.  In theory this eye should be relaxed, I am only using the right one.  So I have made conscience effort to keep the left eye relaxed and bang my scores have increased by 6 animals.  I jumped from the mid 20's to mid 30's. So a simple fix has completely broken my plateau that I fell into the past year or so.

Is this weird? Has anyone else had this experience?

I shoot with both eyes open, I am right eye dominant so I use this one for shooting, and with my left eye I check some girls on the firing line.

chunter,

Found that out a couple of years ago that I was getting tired at the end of a match and not waiting for the dot to get in the animal(rushing the shot), went to one of those eye patches that goes over your shooting glasses and flips up when not in use. Scores went up, stuck with it, now my offhand hunting is suffering(no patch). Glad it has worked for you now a mid 30 is a master score, keeping that up will drive you nuts. Thats when you go to two patches, one for each eye(LOL).

I think if you make the block out of a plastic milk carton and not something that completly blocks the light, you wil quit squinting.  Give it a try.  Worst thing that can happen is you loose 6 animals again.
