In Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Trappers Assciation funds research done by the Wisconsin DNR. They also assist state biologists in studies and provide carcasses for research, such as a study of pesticide buildup in river otters in various parts of the state.
The Ruffed Grouse Society does habitat work, has their own biologists, and funds habitat work.
In WI we also have Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and Wings over Wisconsin. I'm not personally familiar with what these groups do.
A group I am familiar with is North American Hunting Dog Association or NAVHDA. At various times they have done habitat improvement, helped with woodcock studies, and generally support the use of trained dogs as a conservation method.
