Howdy gents,has anybody used Puff-Lon or shotshell buffer from precision reloading as fillers for reduced loads?
I am looking to use a filler for my 45-90 sharps with smokeless powder,& would appreciate any suggestions or comments,thanks.

I have used the poly fill stuff they sell at any fabric store. It is the filler they use for stuffed animals, pillows, ect. I have used this for years & years with NO problems EVER. A bag if this stuff will last a very, very long time. I have shot 100,000's of thousands of reloads so I think I know a little about what works.

Orange Wing - I started using that poly fill when I was developing firelapping loads for different rifles. I had a hoot of a time with that stuff being able to shoot light loads in my bigbore rifles. The fun part was that the loads were pretty accurate. Skipping cans at 50 yds with a big bore lever just as fast as you can lever them in and out them is a blast. And you are right, one bag of that stuff lasts nearly forever - I even gave my girlfriend some for a quilt she was making and I still have a whole bunch left. Mikey.

thanks for your help,how do you use it,a little ball on the powder to keep it against the primer or enough to compress with the bullet in place?
do you see any residue in the barrel?
what calibers have you shot it in?

Bill, You don't pack it in the case. You just take a small amount & leave it stringey. After you put the powder in the case then push the filling in the case. Push it down until it is on top of the powder. You don't need or want to pack the filling into the case. All your doing is keeping the powder at the bottom of the case. I have NEVER had a problem doing it this way. You can pull the cotton off a q-tip and use that to push the fill down into the case.

OrangeWing has it right on the nose. My dad and I both use this for .45-70 with IMR 3031 and 405 grain rounds. It man not be exaclty necessary, but you do get much better accuracy with it as the ignition is much more uniform. As for residue, you might see one or two little stringys in the barrel, but you've got to look pretty close. I've never had a problem with the polyfill, and its so cheap, even if you don't like it, give it to the wife to make you a pillow or something.
