I will be making a trip to Houston and El Paso in January and want to hunt hogs without paying for a guide. Are there any public lands along my route, or even private where we could pay a small fee to hunt for a day or two? My friend and I don't have much money, but we love hog hunting. Thanks for any info.

Sorry, I haven't been following this one for a while. If you get on the internet, you should not have too much trouble finding a place to hunt hogs for $75-100/day after deer season which ends in some places close to San Antonio the first weekend of Jan.

Not exactly what you're looking for but might be close enough.

Check out www.captainterry.com Look at the hunting options on the Haun Ranch. They have guided and semi guided hunts for hogs really cheap. Maybe completely unguided too if you ask. Here is the contents of the last e-mail I got from Terry Haun.

Hogs hunting is great at Haun Ranch near Victoria Texas. The ground is getting dry and hard making it difficult for hogs to root. The grass is all dried out and bitter so those hogs need the feeders. We hunted 4 feeders last week and saw hogs at every feeder, about 50 total. Last night we checked one feeder, saw about 10 and took the biggest boar, 220 pounds.
Come on out and take some hogs.

Hog hunts, semi-guided, baited stand, unlimited hogs, no kill fee--

Thanks graybeard. Have you or anyone you know been to this ranch? What licenses are needed for an out of state hog hunter? Thanks.

No I've not been there. Seems like I've heard from someone who has but can't recall who. If I were closer I'd sure give it a try. Looking over the site it appears to be a nice place and the prices are most reasonable.

You can buy a $35 small game/exotic license to hunt hogs and the various exotics. The folks who run the place can tell you the correct name for license. It's good for 5 days.

I've hunted at the Haun Ranch a few times. He's got lots of hogs! :wink:

Not much public hunting along your route. Even with what's available, it's not very productive. Your best bet is to seek a day lease/hunt.

Terry Haun is a good one. Another on is out in D'Hanis (near Hondo) and they have BIG hogs and plenty of them.
