anybody know anything about a ruger 22 pistol with a alloy frame? a buddy has a single six with a alloy frame he wants to sell. im thinking it is rare but im not sure. any advice would be appreciated?

Depends on what you are calling the frame. If you mean the GRIP frame {most likely} they are all alloy. Thats why there are aftermarket brass and steel frames for Rugers.
I dont think there were any, Ive never seen or heard of one, but if you mean the cylinder frame you would have a rare one indeed. Used SSs in my area of PA go $175 to $225 on average.

Ruger did make an alloy frame single six.

My old Blue Book Of Gun values says they were 4-5/8" barrels, made 1956-1958, 200,000-212,000 serial number range, so there were 12,000 of them.

Interestingly enough, Colt also made a Frontier Scout .22 SA with the alloy frame from 1957-70 and the values are identical to the Ruger...but Ruger made it first.

Thats why I love this site, Learn something new every time. 12,000 made now I know why Ive never seen one. Kinda homely though.

these guns were rugers first attempt at a light -weight model 22 revolver.they did not catch on and had a limited production.there are a few diferent models,color variations.one referred to as a tri-color has an alloy cylinder as well,blued barrel,satin finish frame and a green-ish brown alloy cylinder.these are most desirable and are worth the most.i posted a thread here quite awhile ago,inquiring about them.i have one in about 98% condition,real sweet little gun,if you can pick it up reasonably you won't be disappointed.here's a link with some more info.http://www.gunblast.com/Hamm_Single-Six_Lightweight.htm.you will prob have to copy and past.hope this helps

i got a look at the gun this week and as i actually expected it was just a plain ole alloy grip frame 3 screw. the way he explained it was that the whole frame was alloy, that did sound very odd to me for a ruger. but by posting my question i did actually learn about the actual alloy frame ruger. even being a ruger fan this was something i did not know and will be on the lookout for.
