Marlin 7000 questions and thoughts, need advice

I just got back from the range, shooting a new Marlin 7000. I bought this for my nephew and was sighting it in close, before turning it over to him for final sighting.

I liked the rifle, but have a few questions.

First, the trigger is horrible as most new guns are. I need to have it tuned up. What advice do you have, if any to solve the horrible trigger? In other words, how does one do a trigger job on this rifle or who is a expert where I can send this offer to have it done?

Secondly, I was shooting Federal Gold Medal ammo ($2.14 wholesale). The gun would not cycle each round, as the ammo was not hot enough. Since the rifle will be used in match shooting.......I want to use match (semi-match cost wise) ammo for my nephew.

I did like the gun. I was able to cover a nickel at 50 yards, having a flyer about 1 out of every 5 shots....which was me more than the gun. I think the trigger really had a lot to do with it. I shoot a Walther and I know the trigger pull on this Marlin seems like 20 pounds compared to my Walther.

In closing, I would like any advice or "how to fix" answers to the trigger problem on this rifle. Plus I seek other feedback from other Marlin 7000 owners.

   I hope this post is not too late to help....

    I have a 7000, and it is a nice, highly accurate rifle.
  The trigger question....
   About a year before I bought my 7000, I bought an 880SQ.
  The trigger was stiff and rough, so I stoned it almost immediately.
  By the time I had put 300-400 rounds through it , the trigger had broken in to be too light, too touchy....so I alone use that rifle.
    When I got my 7000, I decided not to do anything as far as trigger was concerned..until I had put some break-in rounds through it.
   Within 300-500 rounds later the trigger had been broken in very well.
  Although it doesn't outshoot the 880SQ...it comes very close: closer than the tricked out 10/22s I have built...

I tinkered with mine and it helped some.  I just could not deal with all the take-up.  It seemed like it took 3 minutes to break off a shot.  I was not able to find any good aftermarket trigger so I turned mine into cash!
