Elite 4200 2.5x10x40 vs. Conquest 3x9x40
« on: December 10, 2004, 11:31:29 AM »
These 2 particular Bushnell and Zeiss scopes are the ones I am most interested in.  The application will be on a Knight Disc Elite muzzleloader.  I really like the 4" constant eye relief the Zeiss offers because a ML with a hefty charge of Triple Se7en can kick substantially.  I also like the Elite 4200 w/ Rainguard but it is advertised at having just a tad over 3" of eye relief.  I have always used Leupolds so eye relief has never been an issue.  I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with a Bushnell Elite on a heavy recoiling rifle.  I'm just looking to add a little variety to my shooting by trying a different brand of scope for a change.   Any thoughts or firsthand experience with either of these scopes is much appreciated!

I don't like the Elites for that specific reason myself. For me I find the eye relief not very forgiving. I get "bit" a few times with one on a 7x57. I would certainly opt for the Ziess myself.

Had to make the same discission between the Elite and the Conquest recently, I went the Conquest. Eye relief is long and non critical, wide field of view, good clarity.

I too would say go with the Zeiss, the optics on them are stellar and the FOV is very good. I have the 3.5x10-44 model and the eye relief is a constant 3.5 inches all the way up to 10x, at least to my eyes.

I decided to go with the Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 scope.  I placed an order from the Optic Zone today.  By the way, they have some great prices and I am glad to support a Graybeard's sponsor since I enjoy the forums so much, especially the Modern In-Line ML forum.  I'm sure I will be pleased with the Zeiss as I have yet to hear a single bad thing about them.  Can't wait to get it and check it out! :D

I have the Zeiss 3-9x40mm on my 30-06, you will not be disappointed.  Great scope, especially for the money.  As a matter of fact, I will probably outfit this scope on a few more guns I plan on getting.

I used to buy scopes from theopticzone well before they were even sponsors of this site.  I did so because they had really low prices, and their customer service and knowledge was simply spectacular.  I remember that when I heard that theopticzone became a sponsor, I was so happy.  Shows to prove that Graybeard chooses some of the best people and companies to be his sponsors.  As such, since that time, I have purchased quite a few scopes from theopticzone - something like 8 or so I guess.

In fact, I purchased both the scopes that are being debated.  Both are great scopes, but I would go with the Conquest 3x-9x-40 because of the extra eye relief.  Actually, when I look through both scopes at the same time, the extra eye relief is REALLY noticeable.  It feels kinda weird to have Conquest so far out in front of your eye. :)   With a hard kicker, go with the extra eye relief of the Conquest.
