Tang Safety 6mm

While at a gun shop yesterday I saw a Ruger M-77 tang safety 6mm rifle w/rings on the rack. What rate of twist does this gun have? Better for lite or HVY bullets?
Bore needs cleaning, lands look sharp/square. It also has a very nice trigger.
This is a consignment gun :?

Don't know about the old ones----the new ones are showing a 1 in 9 twist.

$275.00 for the gun, thinking about buying to re-barrel in another calibre.  :wink:

I'm thinking it would have to be a long action----since the 6mm is longer than the short action calibers------unless Ruger made an intermediate action at the time????

I'm not sufficiently aware of what Ruger did or does make but the 6MM Remington, .257 Roberts and 7x57 share the same 57MM long case. All are chambered in short actions or have been by Remington. Altho I personally agree a longer (than Remington short action) makes sense to me.

My Ruger 77 6MM is a short action.  It is one of of the new ones so I am not sure if the tang safe model was based on the same length action but I would think so.

I have a 243 Ruger M77  Tang Safety and it's a short action. It's a good accurate rifle based on the 308 cartridge case.

I have a Tikka in 243 now. I was looking at th Ruger as a project gun for a re-barrel to ?? calibre. Would want a L/A receiver.

I have a .257 in a M77, tang safety, made in 1970 and it is a long action. They may have made both short and long actions. Carl L.
