Ruger No. 3 & Weaver bases
« on: December 16, 2004, 04:26:46 AM »
Now that I found a Ruger No. 3, does anyone here know if the Weaver bases for it (#85 and #86) require any gunsmithing.  I read the Weaver catalog and it has a note that "fitting and/or drilling and tapping may be needed".  The word MAY is pretty wishy-washy.

The particular No. 3, I own is a late model (1984) and has two sets of two holes each on the top centerline of the barrel.  Two are about an inch apart just ahead of the receiver and two are just behind the open sight.

I need to get the rear base in order to mount a NECG peepsight, provided there is no drilling and tapping.  If D&T are needed, I might as well get a traditional Williams peepsight for it.

No need to answer.  I posted this question a couple of other places and have been told that the bases will fit without gunsmithing.  I guess some of the early Ruger No. 3's were not drilled and tapped.  This one is D&T.  Anyway, I have an order on the way to Brownells now.
