What are the laws in your state governing the use of dogs for the taking of deer? In California it's legal. One dog per hunter. Lawdog

In West Virginia it is illegal to use dogs. Dogs will normally get shot if caught in the woods during hunting season.

Illegal in TN.....that's a real problem for a lot of hound men.........the state has done a great job on deer.......as a matter of fact, I see more deer rabbit hunting than I do rabbits! I've had to change to a dog that hunts really close so I can get them off of it if I think it's a deer.............I've been trying to breed out running anything but rabbits for 4 generations......it's very hard to do..........

I can't make them not run a deer, but I can make them wish the hadn't!

For that matter, buckshot is also outlawed........seems to be the favorite of those that dog deer!

Ar is legal during the regular rifle season , but their are some zones where its Illigal so we have both, can and cannot I prefere the cannot as with the dog runners there are some who think its legal to road hunt which is not allowed.

illegal in Kansas and Missouri. I've never heard of anyone around here (NE KS and NW MO) doing it but I know it's still practiced illegally in southern missouri.

I think it is still legal in La and Ms, I hunted both places with dogs several years ago. Beagles make excellent deer dogs, they keep the deer moving, but just fast enough to stay away from the dogs. In Ms. we hunted with large hounds, they would run a deer to death. That is where I learned to never shoot over the head of a horse. He must have run under ever tree in the county before throwing me. I was black and blue from head to toe, and had to replace the stock on the old double barrel Winchester. (After I found the gun.)

Baits can be in the form of salt, mineral blocks, prepared solid or liquid which is intended for the animal to eat. An area is considered to be baited for 10 days after the removal of the bait and any affected soil.

Dogs may be used while on a leash only to track or trail wounded deer.

Artificial deer decoys are legal for deer hunting.

It is illegal to hunt with them in Michigan but you can use them to track a deer you have wounded.

In Virginia it's allowed in some areas... I think the stuff East of the Blue Ridge, but I don't have a dog so I don't know for sure. I would put them in the allowed witha caveat.

Illegal in Nebraska as well. Some folks will shoot a dog if it's running deer. :twisted:

New Hampshire has it illegal.....BUT, Im told the Fish and Game allows some people to become liscenced with their dog for tracking purposes ONLY.. I cant say for sure if it actually is true, though.

East of the blue ridge they can unfortunately use dogs, west of the blue ridge the people hunt deer not the dogs. East of the blue ridge dog hunting consist of idiots parked on the edges of roads listening for dogs chasing deer. Some people could not kill a deer unless they have 40 dogs and 15 trucks with cb radios chasing them down. They look silly, that is not hunting. Dogs are fine for rabbits and birds but not deer. Most hunting clubs in my area are rude trespassing idiots. They lease up ever bit of land and trespass on anything they can not lease. Sorry if this offends anyone, but if you learn how to really hunt you will get over it. I still hunt and I average 5 to 6 deer a year and I don't hunt every available day.

South Carolina it's legal... at least on the coast. I ran into them all the time working.
