Your question has pretty much been answered, but my 223 UV can usually cover 3 shots with a dime. those are 40gr Vmax handloads. That's where the real beauty of these guns starts to shine, in handloading.
My son's standard 223 will shoot the Win white box at 1" all day long.
I was at the range playing a couple months ago. There was a 2" wide post stuck in the ground 289yds downrange. I hit it everytime I tried from my benchrest. It was too easy.
Compared to a savage 12V??? I bet my money on the Savage for averages, but for the money??? You won't get the savage for $250. If you do, I'd get the Savage! :-D
