Not sure what is still available out there but I would have to say Marlin beats Ruger hands down. I have only shot one Marlin and that was a old clunker and it still shot better than any stock non target ruger I have ever shot.  I have owned 4 rugers and they are not that accurate. I bought them because every one else seemed to have one so I figured they were good guns.  I was wrong they are not as accurate as they could be. Of course that makes the cottage industry that caters to the fix my ruger to shoot or to be cool crowd happy!        Just like Ruger single actions they are gun smiths making a living smoothing the actions out on these and making them shoot good. That is WRONG they should be good out of the box and while a few are many are not. Rugers Quality control STINKS!  :x
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

The Ruger 10/22T is very accurate out of the box as long as you don't get tired waiting for that "lawyer" trigger to work.  Change the triggers and the Ruger's are as accurate and even more reliable than most of the other semi-auto's made today.  I have bought five of them for the family and they shot 1" or less groups out of the box and better after i changed the triggers.  Lawdog

Like any other rimfire rifle, a semi-auto .22 L. R. rifle will have a preference for certain brands of ammo.

I own a T/C Classic. I free-floated the barrel when I acquired it and tested various brans of ammo. Mine has an affinity for CCI Green Tag, which produced 1 " groups at 100 meters, CCI Std. Vel. - 1-1/4 inch groups and CCI Mini Mags - 1-1/2 inches at 100 meters. It did no like Federal 711, PMC Scoremaster or Aguila. I'll be testing some Wolf Match Target soon and will share results.

The only complaint I have is that the trigger is "Lawyer-proof". I'm sure groups would shrink if I could adjust the trigger pull weight.  :cb2:

You could be very right Lawdog but it is my contention you should not have to change anything out of the box to get a good firearm. Ruger is not the only one but one of the bigger ones!  I got rid of a perfectly good Savage Striker in 22 mag as the guns trigger was crap and I did not want to pay for a trigger replacement just because Savage is Lawyer shy. Traded the Savage in for a Henry 22 mag lever and never looked back smaller groups and a lot nicer trigger!  I cannot tell you of articles I have read about Ruger single actions sent in to either smooth the action or make more accurate. Same with tricking out Ruger 10/22's!  Lots of folks are making a lot of money out there fixing Rugers faults that should not be in the first place.  I shoot a lot of milsurps so I can shoot some triggers that are no where near target triggers and shoot good groups. IT does iritate me though when a gun does not perform and it is shipped from the factory anyway. I have seen too darn many Rugers do that and have heard the same from the gun shop and others I have talked to so I know it is more than just my opinion. Rugers are fantasic when every thing works like they should unfortunately that is not always the case. And Yea I had a 10/22 T also. Funny thing is my Romanian 69 shoots rings around it. I traded off the Ruger when I saw how good the Romanian shot.
