Got Lucky!
« on: January 18, 2005, 12:36:14 PM »
Worked Sat & Sun at GRPC in Jax Fl this last weekend supporting the annual Glock Match.  Names of all range officers and helpers were put in a "hat' and my name was drawn for a new Glock.  I own a full size 45ACP and a Springfield XD9 in 9mm and many different cal wheelguns. I want a carry gun in either 357Sig, 40S&W, or 10mm. My hands are somewhat larger than average so pistols with shorter grips are not to my liking. My question relates to whether I should get a compensated or uncompensated Glock pistol and what are the reason/s for your reccommendations as to caliber, Model, and comp/no comp configuration.

Congrats on your good luck!
I carry a G22 all the time with one extra mag.  The 40 has slightly less recoil than the others so it's quicker on target for me. It is also cheaper to shoot\practice.  I'm 5'11" at 200 lbs and have no problems carrying the full size frame in a Comp-TAC holster.  I also have the tritium night sights on it as I detest electronic sights.  Lasers look cool and all the new frames are setup with rails for lights, etc...BUT, my feeling is anything that gives away my position is not good for my health.    I use a hand held light held far away from my body when necessary.  There's a great light at Walmart...Brinkman $20 almost as good as the Stingers.

Since my night vision is critical to winning, comped bbls are also out.  One shot and my night vision is gone.

Well, there's my  :money:  for what it's worth.

Good luck,
Bob
Thanks!
Bob

If it is going to be for protection I would not get a comp gun you may have to shoot from a awkward position some day and you could burn your self.

A retired LEO called me to say that a comped gun can be bad news in the dark so I will get a non-comped gun as this pistol will be for concealed carry.  Being a rather large person I can carry/conceal a pistol with a full sized grip easier than most so I will go to some different gun shops and handle various models to see what fits me best. Thanks for the advice. Rbump
