Success on a nice hog, but fridged weather!
« on: November 28, 2004, 06:02:47 PM »
Well here is a really nice wild hog I shot this past weekend with my Bow. Check out the thick skin on this bugger. Broadside shots with anything less then perfect placement and a 100% razor sharp broadhead will be big trouble on big old boars. This was shot at 24 yards quartering away and the hog went approx 40 yards  falling within sight of the shot. There was not a single drop of blood on the ground!

I also had the good fortune to shoot the beautiful whitetail with bizzare double antlers. Look close at the bases.

WOW beautiful boar, VERY healthy looking specimen, congratulations!  Now the scenery don't look like Washington or South Africa, where'd you nail him?   The rainforest pigs here in Hawaii are in many areas hybrids with enough domestic blood for curly tails, and red, or gray coats, but still just as hornery as ever though the eating quality is a tad higher due to higher fat content.  You have to get high up into the mountains above the rain forest to get into the more classic Polynesian Boars which mirror your fine boar in physical traits.   Nice Whitetail too.  Same area as boar?

Sorry for late reply, better late than never...
This a PDF file of the Hawaii State Mammal Hunting Regulations:
http://www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw/hunting/MammalHuntingRegs_Chap123.pdf
It's very informative including all firearms regulations, and detailed maps.
Basically as a rule no closed seasons, and generous bag limits, any rifle with minimum 1200 fpe at the muzzle, and shotguns 20 ga. and over using slugs or OO buckshot.  Non resident license is $99.00

I am curious as to where the boar was shot? I have hunted feral hogs in Florida but I wouldn't mind taking one in the snow.
