Pics of my Rev War Three Pounder
« on: December 23, 2004, 09:35:07 AM »
I've recently put some pictures of my full scale three pounder and limber on a webpage for a buddy.  He is building a similar gun and needed some close ups.  I thought they would be appreciated here too.

http://community.webshots.com/album/231133419pBaOUJ

The bore is 2.75 inches. The tube and major iron work came from Cannons LTD.   I did all the simple iron work.  I had the white oak cut at a local saw mill and had them kiln dried (took six months!).  I planed shaped and drilled all the wood to fit the iron.  The wheels were made by Whitmer Coach shop in pennsylvania to my specifications.

I use the gun for Rev War and War of 1812 reenactments and living history programs.   I've only fired it live one time and had terrible accuracy with Beanie-Weanie cans filled with concrete.  Even at 100 yds I could hardly hit anything. I had one 2.5 inch round ball made of dental plaster that did hit the target even though it was undersized.

Thanks

Nice pics of a great looking cannon. You have to post some pics of it firing.

Also, Welcome to the board!

threepdr....that is one great build. I envy your ability to build one like that with such geat attention to detail.  Also, welcome to a great BP Cannon/Mortar site/board.  Now we are waiting to see some pictures of that cannon blasting off.  Blaster (Bob in CO) :D
