22 hornet youth
« on: December 29, 2004, 05:59:47 PM »
Just picked it up from my transfer dealer through the gun auctions today and it seems to be a nice little rifle.  So little as to be cute reminds me of a 22 Chipmunk.  Then I made a mistake and showed it to my wife and think I've just lost that one.  It seems to fit her very nicely being a youth model.  Her first question is does it kick and I showed her the bore diameter difference between it and my 45-70.  Now I need to add a scope and rings and she will be happy and I might get to borrow it once in a while.  Seems the same thing happened when I bought a NEF youth 20 GA because it was cheap and would be easy to carry.  Anyone have much experience with the Hornet?  I know its been around a long time and look forward to shooting it.

Just got me a hornet as well. I think it one fine caliber. I used one as a kid(uncles gun)  and took a few deer with it.  I will do the job if you put it right in the boiler room. But it's more suited for smaller game.  Dont understand the 17HMR craze at all, just to small of a bullet. the hornet is faster, has more energy, and is actually a flatter shooter, and will take larger game. however bullets are more expensive.  Just to pick your brain'-- a 222 at a 100 yds is what the Hornet is at the Muzzle, A hornet at 100 yds is what the .22 mag. is at the muzzle.  JFYI
