I am trying to find out what the rut dates are here in north texas. I'm going on a hunt this weekend, but I'm not sure if I should put out Tink's or not. HELP!!!

Dates vary widely even in the same county.

"Normal" dates were way off this year in South Central TX and could be where you are, too. Rut started almost three weeks late.

Doesn't matter much if the rut is in or not if you are using a good scent. I've seen does be attracted by it, and they sure aren't looking for does in heat. Worst case it will be ignored. Certainly not going to spook the 'ol boy.

Texas does (even N TX) often come in heat as late as January. Any buck that has been around the block will not be surprised by the smell of a receptive doe.

We went hunting several times and did not ever see a buck chase a doe. We were hunting in Jack county.

Ain't it nice to finally get some cold weather here in Texas. The weather man said it would be 11 degrees Friday morning, darn it's gonna be cold on the stand.

To answer your question about the rut. I watched bucks chasing doe three weeks ago, I thought they were in rut then, but the following week-end there was no bucks chasing the doe. Last week-end I watched a monster buck chasing everything he could. He finally had a doe stand for him (it was over in about three minutes) then he headed out after another as she stood there quivering for 10-15 minutes. I think the rut is inow n full swing here in Taylor County (West of Abilene).

We've only killed two bucks on our lease, Jack-Young County Line, and nobody has seen the bucks chasing the does much. I've seen one little six point on the trail of a doe, and that was about it. Had my digital camera out all year, until last week when I put the wrong code in and had to send it back to reset, and got some real nice pics of some real nice bucks, but they weren't chasing any does.

Also, not coming in much to the feeders with all the acorns on the trees. Hopefully this cold weather will take care of all that. Dang, I'm on call until next Thursday and can't get away to deer hunt until then.

Muzzleblast525. Have you tryed Paymaster feed blocks? I've been using them for years. I always place one 25-30 feet away from the corn feeders and have watched deer go to the blocks and totally ingnore the corn feeders. I usually feed a mixture of corn and Anthler Master in the feeders year round. They will come to them after the acorns are gone and during the late winter when the other food sources are scarce. I also always keep a mineral block in the feeder to help produce better anthlers.

The only problem with the blocks vs the feeders, they can come to the blocks whenever they wish. The feeders being set on a timer usually has them there at the time it goes off.
