12 ga 3.5" SuperMag Remington 11-87, 26" barrel.

Benelli Super Black Eagle, camo, 26" barrel 3 1/2". It weighs less than the 11-87 which makes it easier to carry.

I agree with dukkillr, the SBE, camo, also it is available with the pistol grip stock, looks like that could make for easier handling in a turkey gun.

My setup is a pump, but you could do the same with an auto. I use a Remington 870 with a 20" smooth bore slug barrel with rifle sights and choke tubes. I use the super full ventilator choke tube and have changed the sights to firesights.

Short, light, tight groups. The bird is in the freezer for proof.

I actually use a pump as well... the Remmington 870 3 1/2" turkey special 23" barrel with real tree camo, sling, etc... the gun weighs less and is easier to adjust than the hevier autos, but it kicks like a mule... The question however, was what's the best auto for turkey hunting, and for that I had to go with the Benelli

hope i dont make anyone mad here only a turkey hunter for 40 years..first ,you dont want weight of heavy gun as most turkeys are in the rough stuff..any shotgun will work but a light one is way to go..20 gauge is fine for turkey..short barrel is way to go ..i would say a cheap pump would be my pick like a rem 870..again you dont want weight..forget all this hype on 3 inch shells and forget that 3 and 1/2 inch shells..you dont want to lug a heavy gun around for turkey or a expensive one.. its going to get scratched and dented etc.i would pick a 20 gauge in the rem 870..i would buy a beretta 12 gauge in 28 inch barrel for upland hunting not turkey..i have killed many a bird with 20 gauge.. it only takes 1 bee bee in head or neck to kill the biggest turkey.. secret is NO WEIGHT when hunting turkey ,20 gauge is way to go,take care

Think for a moment about what you are asking. The gun you use for turkey hunting is the absolute least demanding task a shotgun will ever be put to. It just plain don't matter what you use. The ONLY thing that really matters is the pattern is thick enough to do the job and you can point it where it needs to be pointed. A single barrel is all you really need. ANY shotgun you like is more than adequate to the task. Shooting a stationary target with a lot of shot ain't rocket science.

I've shot turkeys with all kinds of shotguns, single shots, pumps, semi's even a side by side and a muzzleloader. My personal favorite is the Winchester Super X2, light, handy. I played around with the new SBE with Pistol grip and that is a comfortable set up to me. The barrel is a little long for my preference but that can be fixed.

GB is right. There's a 99% chance that it's going to be a one shot proposition, so it really doesn't matter. Get something that fits you. If you're set on a semi auto, then in my opinion, nothing beats a Remington 11/87. You can spend more money, but you won't find anything more reliable than the Remington gas system. Mine has been absolutely malfunction free for 14 years.
