I bought this gun from a local Gander Mountain Store. The store gunsmith had been working on it and intended to finish it like you see it above. Well he had cut down the barrel and removed the warning label.
He had stripped the cylinder frame, hammer and loading gate bluing to have it color cased at Turnbull. He sent it out to Turnbull and somewhere while it was enroute it was lost and damaged in shipping. Well as I understand the story UPS paid out on the insurance for this little gun and that was over.....
Well sometime later the parts were returned to the store. The gunsmith set the project parts aside as they were damaged to boot. He, for lack of better words, moved on.
Well one day I was in the store and was asking about a custom Super Blackhawk that was for sale there. After getting the particulars on that gun he asked me if I would like to see a Bisley project of his. I of course said sure.
Well he showed me the above gun and told me the story on it and I could see the potential (having seen pictures of Lloyd's color cased guns posted here and on the Ruger boards) that was in that little gun. When Kevin showed me the gun it was in pieces. Some parts were blued and some were in the white. Some were gouged up from the shipping damage.
Well I asked Kevin if he would show me the gun when he finished it. He said heck why don't you finish it? I thought about that for a while (more like 10 seconds) and told him to figure out what he would have to have for the gun.
The gun was pretty cool. It had a Qualite cam cut ejector rod housing and the Ajax grips. After settling on a price I took the box full of parts home.
I won't go in to all the details about the fitting and cleanup that I did. I will tell you that I added a Wolfe spring kit, a Qualite cresant shaped ejector rod and a Belt Mountain Keith #5 oversized base pin.
I timed the action to eliminate cylinder drag marks and polished all the internals.
The cylinder frame, hammer, trigger and loading gate went to Turnbull Restoration for the color case finish. All of the other parts were hot blued by a guy here in West Michigan.
I hope you guys like it this little gem was a lot of fun. Thanks for posting my picture GB!
