Strange one..opinions on loading 147gr for 9mm carbine???
« on: December 26, 2004, 01:59:56 PM »
Hi All,

I'm thinking of getting a Beretta Storm in 9mm and was thinking that the 147gr bullet would hold together better as a result of the increased velocity of the 16 and 1/2" barrel.  I usually load 9mm with bullseye, but, I'm wondering if the load data is not sufficient for the increase in barrel length.  I expect to use it for paper punching and whatever else one uses a carbine in a pistol caliber for (use your imagination!).

Any thoughts???

Doug

drdougrx;

I have found that using the slower powders work best, such as AA#7 and even Blue Dot with the 147gr. bullet. In fact, the 147gr bullet was designed for rifle length barrels. The Navy came up with that weight for use in the MP5's for the SEALS.
Back in the early ninteys, when the 9mm craze was going on, the 147 saw usage in handguns. But was later determined not to be sufficient for stopping power out of a handgun.

Thanks De,

I figured there was a load for longer barrels.

Steve,

Thank-you as well, I've enjoyed your site!

I'll keep you posted...except, it may be awhile...we just got a foot of snow here in Boston.  Grrrr...

Regards!
