What power scope for .223?
« on: December 25, 2004, 01:19:23 PM »
Hey all,

Right now, I have a 3-9x50 on my .223, but would like to upgrade to a little higher power this spring.  I was thinking about a model with a top end of around 18-24power.  The one that I have on the rifle works good now, it's just that the long pokes at groundhogs(around 300yds.) tend to cover most of the groundhog up.  I want something that I can actually pick a whisker to shoot at, rather than which half of the hog.  Any suggestions as to what you like, or use for yours?  Also, while I do carry it a bit, size isn't as much of an issue as durability and repeatability.  I was thinking of the Bushnell Banner mil-dot 6-24.  Remember, all suggestions are welcome(preferably under $150 dollars, but would be open for any under 200).  Thanks alot.

I put a Simmons 44 Mag 6.5X20 On my Handirifle and it does great on woodchucks. Bought it from Natchez on sale for $90. Since then I have seen the same scope on sale for $140. Fine scope.

I got my .223 scope from SWFA for their sale price of $109. It is a Simmons Whitetail Classic 6.5-20x50 with AO and it is great, never a problem. I see they have them on sale now for $99...!!! A great scope for an even better price!!!....<><....

I have read great things here about Swift scopes and The Bushnell Elite series also. I never had much desire for a Bushnell scope but many here swear by the Banner series for a mid level scope. Of course there are some here that have no use for Simmons also and mine has been outstanding. I liked it so much I bought one of their Red Dots for $28.00 and now 3 of my buddies who tried it have the same Red Dot on their .22 Mags for Varmit setups....

I use a Bushnell Banner 6X18X50 on my 223 and it works out very well. It does extremly well in very low light situations also. I got mine and Midway usa.for $109 and shipping. I've used it alot,so I ordered another one and put it on a Bull barrel mauser.  Not much eye relief though.Digger
