Hi,
This morning I bought a used recurve marked "Warrior by Indian Archery" at a yard sale. It's 60 inchest and has a draw weight of 40 lbs. It was dirt cheap so no matter what I didn't lose anything.
I know little to nothing about archery. I had a PSC compound bow when I was a kid but never took an interest in it because I'm a gun nut first and foremost. Lately I've been considering getting into it with recurves if I could do it in-expensively at first to see how I like it.
This bow looks like it's spent more than it's fair share of
time in the field and is scuffed and scratched up. I can't see any delaminations in the limbs and the tips appear NOT to be twisted but this is only a very very novice inspection.
I just found a problem, though, as I'm writing this. I think it's a left handed bow and I'm right handed. I'm thinking this because when I hold as I would do shoot it the shelf for the arrow rest is on the RIGHT side of the bow. Shouldn't it be on the left side if I'm right handed???
I'm not sure.
If it's a lefty bow what happens if I shoot it?
Can laminated wood bows be refinished? The front and back surfaces don't look too bad and might clean up. They are green and I don't care for that color but I can live with it.
The other parts that would show wood grain are rough looking and the varnish has been worn off and there are scratches. The arrow rest has pealed off, too.
Is there a prefered way to refinish a recurve so that it looks good without damaging the wood or causing delaminations?
Again I'm new to this. Any light you can shed on this would help.
Thanks.
