Which type of slug?
« on: December 28, 2004, 07:36:12 PM »
Next year I am going to try to use my 20 gauge to do some deer hunting. It's a smoothbore barrel. Would I be better off getting a rifled choke and using a sabot slug, or should I just get a rifled slug?

The first thing you should do is to get some sights. You can find sights for both smooth and vent rib barrels. Then, using the I/C choke tube, shot a few three shot groups with several different  brands of rifled slugs. If you can get a brand to group within 4-5"@ 75 yards, you are ready to go hunting. If not, you might want to try the rifled tube and some sabots. You will want to stay away from the high performance sabots, as most of them tend not to work with just a tube. Good Luck,
