Wichita 7mm BR Bolt Action rechamber to?? & need scope m
« on: January 09, 2005, 08:58:14 PM »
Can the Wichita 7 mm BR bolt action be rechambered to a more potent round that shares the same bolt face diameter & rim config? Can the bolt be modified? Can a replacement bolt be purchased?
Whose scope mount will fit this 7mm BR pistol which now wears its original IMSA iron sights? Can anyone recc a reputable 'smith to do this work? Thanks.

Why in gods green earth would you want to rechamber it?  My dad has an old remington xp 100 in 7mm Br and it is a hoot.  As for the potency he has taken an Audad(?spelling) sheep and his only Elk with it using 140 grain silvertip bullets.  The sheep was a little over 200 yards while the Elk was ranged at 182, both only needed one shot.
I must be crazy.

don't know why you want more, but it's your gun!Wichita makes bases for their guns. Ruger rings are needed. I have scoped my 7IHMSA Wichita. Also scoped my XP 100.  If you plan on hunting with your Wichita ,remember it does NOT have a SAFETY!!! When I use mine I never load a round till I see an animal I intend to shoot. YEA, I miss a lot of chances, but I don't like accidents!
any of the 7mm's on the '06 case (7IHMSA,7-08,etc.)can be chambered in the 7BR Wichita. The port may have to be lenghtened.

You sure that you couldn't be talked into parting with that Witchita and then doing whatever you want to an xp-100?

Silhouette guy will take that Witchita off your hands and leave you pleanty for an xp-100, some parts and some gunsmithing

Wichita's are not meant for the field...  They have no safety.

Greg Tannel is a great smith for bolt rigs www.gtrtooling.com

You can easily hunt with a bolt pistol with no safety.  you just don't load it until you are ready to shoot.  If you are stand hunting you can load it but keep the bolt up.
What is the barrel length?
