Howdy Musky,

Richard has it about right.  Lots of practice can help overcome those things that happen on a hunt.

Welcome, and always like to see another .41 show up at the camp. My very first hunting load for my very first hunting handgun, a S/W 657, was a Sierra #8520/210g/19.5/2400. I killed a truckload of deer with that load. I don’t shoot that load anymore as I now use hard cast lead but I still load it for son #2 and granddaughter. Both have killed 2 each does on the farm this season using that load out of their respective 657s’. Granddaughter plans to finish out the season during Christmas break with her revolver. Son #2 is already finished for the season.
There are 13 .41 caliber handguns in my family, 10 are mine, 2 for son #2, and 1 for the granddaughter. As far as Rugers I have a NIB BH .41RemMag, a NIB SBH Hunter in .41RemMag, and a Reeder Custom Guns SBH in .41RemMag and .41GNR. It is a duel cylinder 5 shooter. I load power levels from primer only wax bullets to 290g 100-yard phone pole killers. To say that I REALLY like the .41 would be an understatement.
Love those .41s'

THANKS GUYS-I know I will be calling on you for help :) Should have went to the .41 before, had it but never used it. Have a .35 Marlin that I use in Pa. and a .50 cal muzzle loader that I use in Ohio. But do to some bad disks in the next. I am having problems  hauling them in the woods. The weight on the shoulders doesn't get it. So will go with the .Black Hawk this next season. Thanks  and will be calling for help---Chuck

It was because I couldn’t use long guns anymore that I went with handguns back in 1989 also. I didn’t know anything about hunting with handguns when I stopped in my local gun shop. Counter guy was hot to sell me a S/W 29 as “you really need a.44 to kill deer” but there was a S/W 657 in that case that just kept calling my name. Guy told me he had just received it the Friday before after being on back order for about 8 months. That 657 went home with me that day to fading words of “you’ll be sorry you didn’t get the .44” Three days after I got that revolver home I went flat on my back for 17 weeks except for bathroom and eating. I wouldn’t stand for a catheter and a bag so it was negotiated that I could get up for the bathroom with help. I killed my first deer Dec 31 1990, my best to date a 135 5/8 net 8 point. Up until that first kill, being a rifle guy, there was much uncertainty about being under gunned. That first BANG/FLOP changed all that and I haven’t look back or looked for anything bigger than .41s’. I’m sure you will enjoy yours.
Love those .41s'

Micky, Like maybe too strong a word. I think Crawfish is just starting to get used to his 41's. :-D Regards, Byron

Another .41 fan checking in.  Last year I shot a nice 8 point buck with my 657 Classic Hunter II and a Hornady 210 grain XTP.  I now load 250 grain cast bullets in that gun, over 20 grains of Li'l Gun.  I shot a big doe on opening day this year, with a Desert Eagle Mark VII, .41 mag.  I used the XTP bullet, over 21.5 grains of W-296.  She dressed out at about 145 lbs.
And if I am hiking, hunting, or sometimes just carrying concealed out and about, my magnaported 3" 657 rides comfortably on my strong side.
Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition!

Welcome aboard. If you kill a buck with that handgun your rifles are gonna get dusty. Handgunning is a the only way to fly. IMHO
