Bullet failure
« on: January 31, 2005, 04:42:13 PM »
I had bullet failure from my .480 this morning.   I was about half asleep in my blind when a doe trotted in the field from my right. By time I realized what was going on, getting my revolver unholstered, and realizing that I didn't have much time to take a shot, I finally got enough senses together to aim at the deer and when I pulled the trigger, my 400 gr. cast bullet, that was part of a lovingly assembled handload, failed to hit the deer! :(

Last day of the season, too. Oh well, more range time until next season!

Hate it when that happens. A classic case of the bullet's failure to do what was expected of it for sure.  :)

You might just want to have another bullet from that same batch analyzed to see if it has any "deer avoidence" alloys in it.  There's a lot of that happening these days I'm told.

I would definitely would quit using those bullets, they can't seem to find the deer own their own. :)
