Hi got a new 209x50 for christmas, and i was wondering what steps you guys go threw for cleaning your rifle? I will be shooting pyrodex pellets, and trying bp. Can i use bore butter after cleaning? Thanks alot birdhunter

I just got a new encore 209x50 also. While I have only had it a short time, it's been a piece of cake to clean. The first time I cleaned it, I used Windex, I've always had good luck using it to clean my Muzzleloaders. The next time I tried T/C #13 pre-saturated patches. Just for convenience, this seems to be the easiest way. I also used JB Bore shine the 2nd time just to remove any plastic residue. Both times I soaked the breech plug in hot soapy water before using a nipple pick to clean it out as best I could. Also, after the 2nd cleaning, I used bore butter since it was the end of the muzzleloader season here in Ohio and it will probably be stored for a while. Good luck with yours.

Using Pyrodex pellets or loose or B/P as your propellent. Use hot soapy water to clean as pyrodex is corrosive. The water neutalizes the sulphuric acid residue in the barell. Bore butter is up to you. But clean it out before you shoot again.

If you were using 777 or American Pioneer Powder you can get away with swabbing the bore out with T/C #13 b/p solvent or I just use windshield washer solvent like you put in your car.

I usally run a few saturated patches down the bore until they come out fairly clean. Then follow up with a few dry patches till they come out dry and clean.

If I've been to the range and did a lot of shooting with sabots I follow the proceedure above with a patch or two suturated with Shooter Choice, etc and work a 50cal bronze brush to cut the plastic fouling.
Dry patch until clean, then run a patch with alcohol to clean out any of the petroleum base solvent residue left behind.

Seems to work pretty good for me.
