Davidsons Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter.41M - Bought it!
« on: December 29, 2004, 12:58:56 PM »
Just made the online purchase through Davidson's and the revolver will be shipped out to a dealer about an hour away.  Might get it tomorrow, but more likely on Friday.  I had a special occassion and the spouse gave me the no-hassel thumbs up!  Whooohoooh!

Where can I find a good leather (do I need lined?) cross-draw holster?  I've been looking at a Galco's at http://www.gunaccessories.com/Galco/SingleActionOutdoorsman.asp.  Looks good and like what I want, but I have zero experience with holster makers.  My one and only was a western made 20 years ago by Joe Dakota (appeared in westerns with John Wayne - story for another day).

I also have a Davidson’s .41RemMag Hunter (not the Bisley). Since I scope all my hunting handguns I use holsters that will accommodate the scope. I like the nylon cross chest rigs from Uncle Mike’s. That Galco rig you linked to should work just fine. I just don’t like a barrel that long on my leg.
Love those .41s'

I would check with Galco,  the Ruger Hunter is not listed on those models and due to the barrel configuration I would say it will not fit them.  My .45 Hunter barrel will not even to begin to enter into my Blackhawk fitted holsters.  It does fit in a Hunter Model 1100-51 holster but it is not a crossdraw.
Good Luck

Ruger actually has some holsters on their website (the online store).  They are made by Galco and stamped with the Ruger logo.  Nice.  Crossdraw or on the hip.  The one for the SBH Bisley is about $70; a little cheaper than the plain Glaco.  I think I will go with that one until I choose to scope.  Ruger offers a 20% discount for registering the firearm online, but I need to check to see if it applies to my purchase.

I recently bought a SBHH (7.5" barrell) with the Bisley grip.  I bought the Galco SAO (unlined) holster from Ruger's website.  Very happy with the holster.  Ruger also offers a heavy duty belt to go with the holster.  You want a very HD belt to hold up all this weight.  Actually Ruger sells 2 belts for this holster.  One is a Galco for around $96 the other which looks identical to the Galco is only around $40.  I went with the $40 belt and I am very happy with that too.  After a day in the woods, that rascal gets heavy and a heavy duty belt is a must!!!  I called Ruger and talked to their sales people about their holster recommendation.  Very nice people!!!  Call them and talk to them.  You will be glad you did.  Hope this helps.

When it comes to holsters and belts, you would be hard pressed to beat the ones made by Bob Mernickle

I have a couple of his belts and I worn one almost every day for over 8 years.  Great belts that hold up.

Also, I have a couple of his hunting holsters and I love them.

Another of my favorite leathermen is Gordon Davis.  Grew up with his son and some of my first holsters I made in his shop under his watchful eye.  I have one of his belts that is literally 20 years old now and I'll be wearing it again by spring time.
