Wolf ammo??
« on: December 28, 2004, 06:57:14 PM »
Just wanted to get your thoughts on the Wolf .223 ammo for target shooting.  I bought 4 boxes of this stuff for $10, you can't beat that.  I went through a box today at the range with no problem and fairly good accuracy out of my Handi rifle.  Has anyone had problems with the steel cases of these shells not ejected properly?  If I would get a stuck case, is it as simply as pushing it out with a cleaning rod, or will damage be caused to the chamber?

Thanks
Kurt

Nova, I've shot about 1,000 rds. in several rifles. A mini14, a bushmaster,& a CZ 527. No feed or ejection problems in any of them. Regards, Byron

Typically I reload everything I shoot, but at the price we can get Wolf ammunition, it's just as cheap to buy the stuff.

To date, shot over 3000 rounds (2500 Wolf and 500 S&B) through my 2 Bushmasters - never had a problem of any type.

By the way, Cabela is selling 1000 rounds for about $95 (with 4 ammo cans - the used military .50 cal boxes).  Go to their "Bargin Cave" portion of the site.  They are currently selling FMJ and HP in 55 and 65 gr.

I have heard that the steel cased ammo is hard on the chambers uf US made rifles. I guess though if your shooting them in a Handy Rifle that the mone you save on ammo would buy another rifle when you ruin your cham, ber.

I tried Wolf ammo in my Sako .223 and it would not chamber.  My son who has a Remington .223 had the same thing happen to him.  For my money the Winchester bulk pack of .223 is very reasonably priced and can be reloaded.  It is very accurate out of my rifle and does well on prairie dogs.

A side note on steel ammo.  My other son went to a firearm course put on by H & K (he is in the Marines) and they were advised that the steel cases would wear down the feeding ramp on their pistols.  I have fired a 1,000 rounds through my Sig but will not buy any more.

Dan,

Never really thought of that - will keep in mind.  I've only used brass in all my pistols, but mostly used steel in my Bushmaster.  What do I do with the 3000 rounds in my garage!

I guess you are referring to the Winchester "white box" I have been hearing about.  How much does that run you for a box.  If i'm correct its 50 rounds/box right?  Any different bullet offerings?  I know Black Hills has some reasonably priced, brass cased bulk ammo available in a wide varitey of bullets from 40gr v-max to 77 gr. match bullets.
