what would you do???????
« on: December 30, 2004, 04:14:20 AM »
I posted this as thanks  for the help with the tennis ball mortar, but I will post here and see with everyone thinks.

Thanks for the help on the tennis ball mortar. I have a piece of steel about 7" long with a 5" dia. I wanted to make something that I could shoot with my buddies down in Kanas. we go down in a flat field set up our tents and target at 2,4, 6, 8, hundred yards, we shoot black powder rifles and cannons, so I wanted something I could shoot and have fun and impress the boys with. I was going to make a golf ball mortar but seem pretty big for that. Maybe I should just use PVC full of concrete. any other ideas let me know.
Thanks
Jim

The answer is simple - carve away all that does not look like a mortar or cannon and what's left is what you should have.

This requires lots of thought.

I measured my two chunks of iron - 5.25 diameter by 6 long.  Fortunately yours is an inch longer, but that doesn't leave much.  My idea for mine is the short squat Dictator look.  Caliber - I'll probably do the 1-1/2 or 2" PVC pipe, but you certainly could go larger.

Yea.

This one is 5.25 in diameter, 6 inches high.  His is 5 x 7".
It's either the Dictator or something 15th century.
