Original metal finish on SMLE No.4 MK1

I have a No.4 Mk1/2 that started life in 1943 as a standard Mk1, then was rebuilt by the arsenal into a Mk1/2.  I got this rifle cheap and would like to restore the metal since it has virtually no finish left on it.  It currently has remnants of a black paint finish, but I wasn't sure if that was the original finish, or if it might have been blued or parkerized.  Thanks for the help.

are you looking to have it blued or parkerized? I know guys who have made home parkerizing tanks for their own use and apparently there is a way to parkerize small parts on your stove top. i know a guy on another forum who does this often. i can ask him for more info if you like.

one little nitpick, you title says SMLE No.4 MK 1. only the No.1 series of rifles is refered to as a SMLE.

The black paint is orginal.  The FN49's were painted too.    BigBill

I use the epoxy paint from Brownells its "Aluma Hyde II"  they have it a park finish as well as a paint finish too.  I touched up my 49/56 with the park finish and it looks awesome.
