I bought a Armour Alloy II barrel Super 14 7TCU over the Holidays and don't have a Alloy frame. Seem to remember that they can be sent to Thompson or Fox Ridge to be refited to fit a standard blue or SS frame. Anyone had this done or approx cost? I know I could trade it for a nother SS or blue barrel but got a good price and the barrel is like brand new in the box. Thanks,

joe z, don't bother just sell me the barrel. :-D seriously i bought a aaII frame some years ago, i sent to the factory or foxridge (crs has set in) this was some ten years back it cost 35.00 plus shipping. my understanding they change something on the frame so it would shoot all type barrels blue ss aaII. i have no aaII barrels but have several blue and ss that all shoot and operate well after the adjustments.

Before you send it anywhere first see if your hinge pin will fit it. Many of these barrels have already been altered to work with blue and SS frames. Yours might be one of them.

The needed alterration is to remove just a tiny bit of plating from the hinge pin hole. Can be reamed as most gunsmiths and TC does it or sanded away as is often done by barrel owners. If you choose to do it yourself to save money just GO SLOWLY. You can't put it back after you take off too much.

I have an Armour Alloy frame and two AA barrels, I converted the barrels and frame myself using a dowel rod wrapped with 400 grit emery paper. All you need to do is open the hinge pin hole to accept a blue or stainless pin. Go very slowly and keep trying the pin, stop as soon as it slides in.
I converted mine so I could use all my barrels (blue or AA) on both my blue and alloy frames.

I've converted my own barrels also just as Gregory has. I believe that when it's been converted by T/C, the barrel is stamped with an "X" to indicate such a change. According to an old Fox Ridge catalog, the frame conversion is $35 and a barrel is $25, plus shipping.

If I am not mistaken it is a "&" stamped on the barrel lug. I think that is called an ampersand (sp?). I wish I had a few more AA barrels. They never rust. I have had mine in driving rain and never had to worry about them. I do wipe them down, but I have let some time expire before and never had any type of rust or discoloration.

Thanks for the correction Possum. I remember reading that they are stamped but I believed it to be the "X". I agree with you about the AA barrels. I bought a few on an auction site about 10 years ago and love them for their durability.

I just had to check my only AA barrel, a 14" .35 Remington that was converted by T/C for regular frames and see what it was marked. On the left side is a 5 point star stamped in the lug and on the other side are the letters AA and a maltese like cross stamped in. It also has a J on the bottom of the lug. I believe the cross is the conversion mark but only having the one AA barrel I can not say for sure.

I too have the AA stamped on one side and the star on the other. The cross may be the conversion symbol on your barrel. The two AA 35Rem 14" barrels I have are marked with the "&" symbol. It is very small on one of the barrels and is located on the side that has the AA stamp.
