Preferred Dates for OK PD Shoot
« on: January 11, 2005, 05:42:39 PM »
OK guys it looks like this OK PD hunt is a done deal from the talk. Wes is all set up to make it happen on his end from our last conversations. He is out with surgery now but should be back within ten days or so from now. He told me he could do it any time in May or June from his stand point.

So what is the preferred dates for everyone so we can begin zooming in on the specific dates for the southern half of this PD shindig? Also how long do you want this to go on? I'm thinking at least three full days for shooting PDs and maybe just a wee tad of BS'ing along the way. Not much mind you as I have little experiencing in that last category.

From my perspecitive it don't really matter a whole bunch. I'm retired so am open for whenever. Just need to know when.

So those of you who plan to attend the OK shoot chime in here with your preferred dates so we can have something to run by Wes when he gets back.

It looks like my best shot for making the PD shoot will be on a big trip out west with my family. I might be able to spend a day around Guymon sometime in the last two weeks of June. Kids are not out of school till the end of May and we have a big family reunion on the 11th. Sometime from the 18th on would be good for me, but plan it for what works best for the group.

I would really like to put some faces with some names and shoot a few dogs, too. I hope things work out.

well i will go no matter what the date my boss is and exvietnam sniper and match shooter so he knows how important it is to go p-dogin . i don't know when but i also think we should have atleast 3 days of shooting maybe meet there on thursday night and shoot friday saturday sunday go home monday.

i think a local should choose the date we don't want it to be too hot  on us northern boys but the end of may is always with most people booked up with graduation late spring vacations ect. but i don't know it may be just the right time we would have all the towns to our selves  .  i don't know just food for though

I would say that with school getting out in most palces the last of May that would'nt be a good time and I know a lot of friends who take their family vacations the first part of June for that reason too.
I can get a Firday off just about anytime and am always off on the weekends, could maybe take a following Monday too. Just about anytime after April makes my vacation time available. I usually take a week off in the summer anyway. That being said I cast my vote for sometime during the first two weeks in June. Length of the hunt really will depend on Wlscott and the p-dogs I would think, but if it's longer than a weekend maybe it would provide for some better scheduling for those who are coming from further away than us Okies. The "Digger Gang" could probably drive it about 10 hours or less, so a weekend works good.......for me anyway.

P.S. "Digger Gang" clarification - myself, Ditchdigger, marv, and Deadeye47.

June Hogs.....I love it!! Talk about perserving the meat, better get 'em gutted and skinned pretty quick if the temps are at normal for that time of year. Oughta be easy to find some moving into the watering hole/waller mode though.
As far as BS'ing goes.....there was a time when I used to tell people that there was a reason my eyes are so brown.     :)  I'm just Full 'o Bull!

I'm baaaaaaack.......

Got a lump on my head the size of a baseball, and it feels like there's a couple of badgers fighting in there, so I probably won't be on much the next few days, but I wanted to check on our prairie dog shoot for sure.

Any time in June will work for me.  I'd probably be more partial to the first part of June just bacause we may get lucky with the wind.  BUT, the wind blows out here fellas, it's a fact of life anytime.  Same with the heat.  It's going to be hot, and it ain't going to matter if you come the first part or the last part of June.  We'll still have a chance for some pretty high temps, around 100 degrees.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I'm out and I'm back and looking forward to getting this thing put together.

Agreed. I think that would be best done in a separate thread of it's own. I'll start one so all can comment.

105 degrees??? You have to be kidding. It would take two summer days in ND to get that hot. :( . Don't know if I could handle that or not.

Wlscott,

How's the weather/ terrain compare from where the shoot is going to be held, compared to that around Lawton/ Ft. Sill area?  Haven't been around your stompin' grounds, but can attest to the other....It's so hot there in the summer that you have salt stains show up on your clothes almost as soon as you step outside!!!...No Joke!!  (Well maybe not that quick, but you will within an hour or two)

The last two weeks of June would be best for me to go. We have a couple of antique tractor shows to put on in the first two weeks of June and I need to help with them.

Skinner, I spent some time in Ft Sill when I was in and I have to say that it is hotter here, but much dryer.

The terrain is flatter with less trees.

I still need to check with my buddy to see when he is good to help with this thing.  I'm not committing to any dates until I talk to the help

You set the dates based on what's best for you and your friends who will be heldping and the best times for weather and PD action. Those of us who want to be there will find a away to make it then.

Which reminds me of another topic I think we need a thread on.
