Gamo Shadow 1000
« on: November 17, 2004, 01:39:29 PM »
Hi, I'm new to this forum, I usally am on others on Graybeards.

I just bought a Gamo Shadow 1000 from Natchez for 89.99.  It was refurbished but looked new and still has a full waranty.  This is my first air rifle of this kind.  Did I get burnt?  Also is this gun any good.

Steve Pennington,

In my opinion you should have saved your money for a better rifle.  Gamo doesn't have the best name in the air gun industry.  They are noted for NOT honoring their warrantees and the seals on their rifles don't wear for sour apples(most likely why it was sent back to be refurbished).  There are Chinese rifles out there that will give you better service and last longer than Gamo.  Lawdog

Avoid GAMO

My front sight fell off, and straight out of the box the back sight was broken. I took it back to Wal-Mart
Go out and get yourself a Concealed Weapons License. I did. :gun4:

Don't get too upset just yet.
I bought mine from Wally World for 119 bucks. Worse trigger I ever used.
The thing has quite a slap when she lets go also, noisy as a train wreck.
BUT. Once you master the awefull trigger, and find a pellet it likes it is accurate.
Mine prefers heavy .177 like the Crossman Premier H domed pellet and on a good day it will shoot 0.5" at 20 yards which isn't bad at all.
Lighter pellets scatter all over the place.
It's plenty powerful enough too. It will penetrate a steel can, both sides, easily, not an aluminum, but a steel 'tinned' can.
So for 90 bucks you did o.k. enough.
Would I buy another GAMO??
NO!
There are better airguns for only a bit more money, but you've got it and it will serve your purposes. Target plinking and small game shooting.
Have fun with it. If it breaks send it back. The worse that can happen is that they won't honor the warranty.
I have a lot of fun with mine back yard plinking and killing cans.
