One of my daughters and her boyfriend came home for Easter. They brought me some excellent beers, and a Winchester Model 97 that had belonged to his grandfather. The barrel is pristine inside, and there is just a little surface rust on the outside. I doubt that a box of shells has ever been through the gun. The problem is that the bolt is back and there appears to be no way to shut the action. The bolt is not jammed open, there is about 1/8 inch forward motion. The carrier will rotate on its pin. I cannot see anything that has jammed in the action that would block the forward travel of the bolt. The gun is not a takedown model. Any ideas on how to solve this problem would be highly appreciated. I would really like to take this one out and do some shooting with it.
