Model 70 Classic, Sporter III

I discovered these on the USRAC web site.  Apparently, this is replacing the "sporter."  Its is a nice looking gun on the web site, in wood trim.

If someone picks one up, I would love to see some better pictures as well as getting a first hand report on its "feel" and shooting ability.

Thanks,

270,

I just enquired about ordering one of these yesterday. I wanted the SS fWT, but the store was told no tto expect those until late May. I am moving in MArch, and want to avoid the higher prices and sales tax, so I am trying to get the Sporter III before I move. Of courxe tax return will give me a definite yes or no to that. I was quoted $599 for the Sporter, and the guy called back with an estimated delivery date, but I missed his call. I would really like to add one in 7mm WSM. Hopefully I can.

I can't wait to get my hands on one of those stainless featherweights. What a beauty. I can't decide between the 7mm-08 or the 30-06.

Yea, I know what you mean.  I've got a bad itch for a 7mm-08.  I''ve been looking for an excuse to get one, and this could be it.

Well, I got the official price of the Sporter III and it was $650! Ouch, that is more than I have currently. The FWT $700, they will have to weight a little longer. I think I am going to opt out and get a new 45 pistol.

Well, I went to my local gun shop today and get the scoop on the featherweight stainless. Looks like late May or June at the EARLIEST before I might get my paws on one. The words stung bad when he told me this, but I felt better once I put a new Model 70 classic stainless 375 H&H on layaway.
