possible problem with lube thinner
« on: July 29, 2004, 05:21:53 PM »
Hello,
I lube all my PPB's with Lee Liquid Alox, and recently added a little terpentine to the container to clean the accumulated lube.
The next batch of bullets were coated with a 'thinner' coating that took 2 days to harden.(they are still a little sticky).
They also have a different color.
Can terpentine be used as a thinner for Alox?
Should i strip and rewrap hese bullets?
Thanks,
Frank

I left some out in my shop this winter and it slightly solidified...just like Latex paint does when it gets frozen.....I am wondering if it is water soluble.  I am gonna watch this one.
....make it count

This is off the Lee website.

look in (molds, melters, and casting)  then (alox application).

They have recommended the use of paint thinner but also that the bottle be heated in a mug of hot water before use. Just a thin coat not a thick coating.  Tacky bullets can be coated with either mica or graphite.

Hope this helps.
