Sidekick NON-sabot projectiles??
« on: January 10, 2005, 01:01:55 PM »
Hello all,
I just ordered a Sidekick 26' from Cabelas, should be here within a week.  My problem is I can't use sabots in Colorado.  I need some advice on non-sabot projectiles.  Please provide links to websites if you have them, and load data.  Practice/cheap projectiles are always good, and hunting projectiles as well.

I currently have the website for the No Excuses.

Thanks,

Would PowerBelts be considered a sabot?  If not,,they shoot great from my sidekick. I'm using 777 pellets (2 x 50grs) and 295 gr bullet and with the gun scoped I can put 3 into a 3 inch target at 75 yards. And they load easy even after a few shots.

I'm not sure if they're legal, but I do know that they are expensive..

DoubleA,

The 460 grain No Excuses shoot great out of my Huntsman 24" Stainless Steel barrel. Make sure you get the ones that are .503, they engrave lightly on loading. I shoot them over 70 grains of 777 FFG and average around 1-1/4" @ 100 yds. Just remember "the bullet length cannot exceed twice the diameter of the bullet", so you are basically limited to a 1.00"  long bullet.

The PowerBelts also shoot good and are also legal in Colorado. 80-90 grains of 777 under a 295 grain or 348 grain should get you close. I prefer the 348 grain. Good luck.

I can't believe Powerbelts would be considered a sabot. I have found 295
hollowpoints with 777 (90 gr) to be my most accurate load at 75 yds.
I shot a nice 8 couple months ago, at approx. 125 yds, and the accuracy held. Cost? I just got back from Wallmart, where they were selling 245 aero tip $5 for 12. Never tried these before. I guess I'll find out. Also a lb of powder was 7 bucks. I guess they are dumping their blackpowder supplies...

I will get out  my ouija board, and predict that you will like the 295 Powerbelt a lot more than the 245.
Aim small don't miss.

None of you all are using cheap lead non-sabots?  Guess I can try the reloading area.

Thanks for all the inputs..

I cast my own maxi-balls, however I sent my muzzleloader back as inaccurate and the factory sent back a target with the holes touching at 45 yards using powerbelts.  I plan on playing a bit more and figuring out for sure whats wrong with my loads.  Obviously however, powerbelts work.
If life is a beach, why am I so crabby?

My sidekick 26" really likes the 295 powerbelts. It shoots 2" groups at 100 yds with out a problem using 100 grains of 777. I tried using the same 100 grain 777 charge with the 245 powerbelts and they were all over the target. I going to try a lighter load and see if they shoot better next time out. I personally would work on setting up the load that you plan to hunt with first. Then when you have got the time try some of the cheaper lead bullets. I just purchased my sidekick last fall and that is my plan at least. I suprised that the powerbelts are not considered a sabot though. Good luck and if you find a good lead round for your Sidekick let me know I plan on giving them a try later this spring.

my sidekick shoots the Hornady Great Plains conicle bullet quite well and they look mean too.  Sadly I can't comment on the terminal performance yet.

Thanks for all the replys.  I'll let you all know if I find an okay cheap all lead round to use for plinking and what not.  I like to shoot a lot, and won't be able to afford powerbelts all the time.

I got this info from another post asking the same question, quoted from Lonewolf

DoubleA: check out Midsouth they have a closeout on powerbelts
I also don't have the time to cast conicals ,go and do a search Black Jack Hill on e bay, here is a guy that cast the REAL conicals . I myself do purchase the REAL in 320 and 380 grain, his price which includes shipping is $ 11.00 bucks for 50 rounds ,so it about 20 cents a round.
