arrow or bolt with extra vanes in the front?
« on: January 08, 2005, 12:11:35 PM »
I saw someone with three extra vanes near the front of the arrow, whats the deal never seen that before.  I belive it was digger's post in this forum.  Also have been hearing rumors of a crossbow season next year here in virginia, will not know for sure until June.  I have started researching already.  What kind of groups can be expected at 40 yards, do deer duck the string from noise?  Is 40 yards even reasonable for deer hunting?

I think 40 yards is about it for a limit as far as the crossbow goes it seems to loose energy faster than a regular bow does but at closer range I think they are more flat shooting and faster. My xbow shoots good to 30 yards but from 30 to 40 she really drops. I suppose some other bows may shoot a bit farther than 40 better than mine as I suppose it depends on the xbow but from what I have seen on the web most guys think 40 is about the limit. I suppose it depends on the setup also a scope with the elevation steps I am sure better than my fixed 4 power. Next year I will have one of those. Jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Mike357mag, if this is the post you are referring to, these are robin hooded bolts that have impacted each other ahd become one. Not something you want to do, just illustrates the accuracy of Excalibur crossbows.
