wish i new about this site before i bought a boat anhcor. hi new here. i did everything i could to this gun and it still has flyers. bedded scope rail tricked forearm, every factory load i could find, must have spent 200.00$ on ammo. i read the post her for more than 3 hrs so i think i have everything covered. great site by the way. i am sad as i was looking forward to customizing this gun. i have a T/C encore and it shoots great so i looked for a cheaper version to play with and boy have i!
and i cant in good faith sell it. my last option is the factory maybe the can fix it.
let me know if i missed anything, or if you know any one who needs a gun that wont shoot less than a 3" group. thanks mike

There are other things to try to get it more accurate. Have you consdered bullet weight vs barrel twist? If you are using heavy bullets you might need a faster twist. Try some lighter bullets. Also...different style bullets behave differently, as well as powders. If you are using factory ammo, you might want to try other brands or reload your own.

i would send it back to the factory.i had a bad NEF barrel once and they made it right with me.i would think it should shoot a 1.5 inch to 2 inch group at 100yards.call them first then send it back

hmmm ... polished the bore? trigger crisp? benched on the hinge? lock-up proper? crown true?
my son's .308 ultra shoots well: two factory brands consistently into 1.5 inches with no tricks.
after whitetail season, we'll shrink that.

You're not the first to have a problem barrel, lots of help here, and the factory is very good at making good on their products, hopefully they'll have it back to you quickly, shooting great!

, Welcome aboard Mike61!! At this time I would suggest checking the crown, then have someone else shoot it. If not sure of what you are looking for in the crown ask a GOOD HONEST gunsmith to check the crown and perhaps recrown it if he thinks it might benefit from it. It's an inexpensive job. Don't give up, the answer is here, we just have to find it. A trip back to the factory is not all that expensive, just shipping and perhaps get a free trigger job while it's there. Never, never, give up!!!!...<><... :grin:

By the way Mike, if you want to sell that problem .308 barrel cheaply let me know!!! :-D

no i did not polish the bore yet dont have the supplys,
the trigger is very good, locks tight. whats this about the hinge? when i had it apart to work on the trigger i looked at the hinge but was not sure if i knew what i was looking for.

i dont think its me but i will have my lady shoot it when she gets back from a hunting trip, man can she shoot from a bench, she has the touch at the range, any way i will reinspect the crown, this has the new heavy barrel. can you tell e about the hinge thanks mike

Mike61, the reference to the hinge was referring to where you support the forward part of the gun when shooting from the bench. Most of these Handi's seem to shoot best when rested as far back on the action as possible, just forward of the trigger gaurd and just about directly below the hinge that the barrel pivots on. Also, be careful not to place any forceful pressure on the barrel or pistolgrip area of the stock when you shoot the gun. Just tenderly hold the gun on target and squeeze the trigger straight back until the gun goes off. Also do not try to just "trip" the trigger, continue pulling it all the way through....<><.... :grin:

Hey Mike. I recently bought a used .308 barrel here that was described as a "jack handle" and it is getting better every time I pull the trigger on it. I am not sure if a boat anchor is worse than a jack handle or not, but I would not give up. I have only done a few tricks to this barrel. And believe it or not, the o ring trick made this barrel shoot worse!!!! :shock: A GOOD cleaning may help. Check the lockup also. I am no expert on this but I do know what helped mine. There are others here who really can help you if you will LISTEN to them. I have not shot a 180 gr bullet through mine, but it does seem to like the lighter weight bullets. I will shut up now before I say something that someone else may not agree with, These 308 barrels have a tendancy to start arguments here on this forum

Mike61...you can spend more than just 3 hours searching the different threads to find all the information and links you'll need to make it shoot or what to do if it doesn't ...and if you say it's a one of the bull barrels and you do deceide to sell it...please let me know...I'll be glad to take that" boat anchor" off your hands for you...and you don't have to give it a second thought on selling it...

thanks for the reply guys. lady just got back from hog hunt, she got a nice pig with her smokepole. we will be going to the range this weekend. i am going to run some more rnds thru this thing and see if we can get it any better, i will let you know if we find any improvement. thanks again. mike
