davidsons 357 blackhawk w/ 3 extra cylenders
« on: January 04, 2005, 04:42:06 PM »
I picked up a blackhawk recently for $412.50 and was wondering if anyone could give me any more information on it.  How many were made, cost new, value now????
It is a 357 blackhawk with stag grips, blue cylanders and barrel, but has a stainless(?) backstrap, trigger guard, and cover for the ejection spring (unsure of technical term).  Also included were an unscratched 9mm, 38 super, and 357 mag cylanders all in velvet "pouches".  The box has 1977 on it. I am more into contenders and sigs, but ran across this beautiful unique gun and had to have it.
Any information would be appreciated.

Please, post your findings here if you don't mind. I'm curious to hear about it.

Sounds more likely that someone bead blasted the aluminum grip frame and ejector housing.  This is pretty common to do after the finish wears on the aluminum since you cannot touch it up as you can the blue.  I have a 44 Mag done that way and I find the look very pleasing.  44 Man

I'm betting it's not a factory thing.  The 9mm and .357 cylinder models were a common and cataloged model.  To the best of my knowledge, Ruger has never offered anything chambered in .38 Super.  You can date the gun on Ruger's website using the serial number.  You could also call thier records dept and inquire about what configuration it was shiped as.  Asking this over on www.RugerForum.com  will get you better ideas on value and perhaps an insight on the extra cylinders.

I saw recently a 5 or 6 gun set done up the same as you described. They ranged from a .22 bearcat up to a .45 BH, if memory serves correct. I was particularly interested in a .41 mag BH done up that way. I think the gun store guy said they came from an estate but whether they were done that way as a special run or the original owwner had them customized is unknown. Very impressive though-
Use it up while its still good-

Thanks for the leads guys.  Still haven't found any concrete information.  I was told that this was a davidson's special edition run, but still haven't verified it yet.  The gun was near mint when I got it with just a light ring around the 357 cylinder and I ran a box of corbons through it.  After posting here I dug it back out of the safe and attached the 38 super and all looked great.  I also attached the 9 mm and actually shot it.  Ran 3 cylinders though of rem 115's and it shot pretty much the same as the 357 at 25 yds which suprised me.  I wasn't sure what difference the .355 vs the .357 slugs would do, but I was pretty satisfied.  My cylinder marks went from almost nonexistant to very light, but I plan on keeping the gun anyway, so why not shoot it.  (Need 38 super rounds now).  I didn't mount the other 357 mag because it is pretty much flawless.  Anyway, a big THANKS AGAIN for all the input.
