Does anybody handload with remington core-lokt 7mm?
« on: October 26, 2004, 12:14:39 PM »
Does anybody here load their 7mm Remington Magnum with Remington factory bullets?  I'm having a hard time finding load data for these, but I'd like to use them, since they are much more economical than Speer, Sierra, etc., and I have been happy with their field performance in the past (particularly the heavier weights, like the 175 grain core-lokt).

I have contacted Remington.  They suggested the various powder manufacturers, who so far have been unresponsive to my query.

Thanks in advance for any information.

Regards,

I reload the Remington 175 in my 7MM Rem. Mag.  I load with H4831, H870, and AA8700.  At this time I have settled on H870 and AA8700 while pushing the 175 grain bullet.  I use the same load for the Remington 175 and the Hornaday 175.  I am happy with the results.  You can find both Hodgdon and Accurate reloading pages on the Internet.

I plan on loading another 100 rounds this winter for bear.

Thanks for the information.  I wasn't sure about using other manufacturer's data for different bullets of the same weight.  I suppose I could start with the minimum loads and work from there, though, as long as the bullets are the same weight and similarly constructed.

In my case I loaded each bullet with a mid range powder charge and worked up .5 grain at a time for a start.  As I approached max I reduced each increase to .1 grain.  I loaded three rounds as each level.  I then recorded my findings with each load and bullet.  Measurements and findings included case head measurements before and after.  Primer condition, accuracy, temperature, elevation, and measured velocity.  I then settled on what I feel was an acceptable load.  As it turned out, both bullets work fine with the same powder charge.  If I was pushing what I feel is maximum for my rifle the results may have been different.

I should note that on range day I may fire twenty-one rounds  with each bullet looking for my hunting load.  If I should hit maximum before I expect I break down the hot loads.

I realize that the notes I keep only pertain to my rifle.  But if need be I can go back to my notes months or years later and start loading. (If I am using the same components.)

I load the 175 grain Remington Core-Lokt in a Model 70 stainless synthetic using H-870 powder.  I just got the rifle and haven't shot it a great deal but initial accuracy tests are encouraging.   I understand that H-870 has been discontinued so I will probably try to find a load that uses H-1000, Reloader 25, or IMR 7828.

I'm currently loading the 140gr rem bullets in a 7mmRUM. They shoot as well if not better than any of the premium bullets that I've tried.
