:-D Just wanted to say "Howdy". I have been reading this forum now for about a year. I too am a Handi-holic. I have an NEF in .223, .270, H&R in .22 hornet and Ultra in .450 Marlin. I also have an NEF in .410 plus other toys from other manufacturers. I have learned a lot from all of you since I have been reading this forum. And I expect that I will learn a lot more as time goes by.

WELCOME, glad to have ya.  Sounds like you've got the bug good already.  We cn probably learn from you too.  That's the nice thing about this place, when we get to where we THINK we might know it all we read a post that proves us wrong.

Always lots to learn from everyone here, old and new.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Welcome to our little space on the web

How does the .270 shoot?  I've been toying with the idea of getting one to add to my "Collection.
"

Muzzle-blast, What part of West By-God are you from?  I went to college at what used to be West Virginia Institute of Technology in Montgomery and married a girl from Summersville. That was 21 years ago but we still get back their for family reunions a couple times a year.

Welcome! You got the bug all-right, nice set of rifles. I only have the .223 & .17HMR, but want to add to my collection. How do you like the .270 & 450 Marlin?
Life was so much simpler when I thought I knew everything...

:D  First off, thanks for the welcome although I feel that I already am home so to speak. I am not sure how to quite do this - I am going to reply to all of your questions in this one!

MtJerry - The 270 shoots great, 1 1/4" at 150 yds. It's a 92 vintage and I
am using a 110 gr. Sierra Pro Hunter bullet over 54.5 gr. of
IMR   4350. COL=2.180. It is not a hot load

Brett -     I live in the Eastern Panhandle of West by God, half way
between Martinsburg and Charles Town. When I moved here
33 years ago, it was still country but now have developments
              springing up everywhere.

v8r -       The .450 shoots a little less than an inch at 100 yds. I am using
Sierra 300 gr. hollow point over 58 gr of H322 and COL=2.525.
This one came from Wally World and as soon as I saw the gun,
I knew I had to have it! Recoil is massive.

ONE HOLE 4570 - I am using 9.8 gr of Alliant 2400 and that load works
well with the Hornady 40 gr. VMAX, 45 Hornady BEE, and Sierra
40 gr Varminter HP. All will shoot 7/10 inch group or less at
100 yds. My rifle likes the bullets seated in, I tried seating out
closer to the rifling and the groups opened up. I recommend
Winchester cases - they seem to be a little thicker than Reming-
ton's. Also, stay away from 296 powder, very hard on cases.
That powder, along with full length resizing, has led to quite a
few case head separations in the Remington brass.

:)    Hi Varminter. I never really played that much with the loads for the .450. The recoil from this load is massive and the accuracy is there. I have a reproduction of a Remington Creedmore Rolling BLock carbine with a heavy barrel and used a load that I had developed for it. Pressures are in the 1895 category. It shot really well and that was the load I settled on. I did purchase some 350 gr Hornady roundnose but haven't loaded any of those up yet. Because I got the 450, I have taken the Rolling Block back down to trapdoor pressures. The gun weighs around 10 lbs. but has a brass butt plate. Six stout loads thru it and it feels like your shoulder is one large bruise.
