How to buy my Handi Rifle?
« on: January 08, 2005, 11:22:57 AM »
That's the latest on serial numbers and extractors verse ejectors,
How do I got the best trigger and the type of ejection I like?

I looked @ a 204 Ruger and a 209X50 the MZ had the better trigger. the 204 had an ejector.

I'd like to just special order on through hyper-mart but wonder if doing a touch feel is'nt a better way to go.

I'm thinking of a 22-250 or 223.

How good is the 204?

rp,
I wish I could find a dealer that carried enough of the Handis that I could go through them to pick the one I liked, the reality of it is that they don't. As for extractors, the 2005 catalog doesn't mention them at all, at least not that I can find. the Ultra rifles, and synthetic Handis both have the statement, "All models are single shot, break-open action with side lever release, automatic ejection and transfer bar system." Again, no mention of extractors. I'd say go ahead and order the one you want, and if there is a problem with the trigger weight, or ejector, send it back. They do seem to have a good service department.

I bet the .204 Ruger had an extractor, not an ejector...the only way to tell is to put a shell in and close/open the action or remove the barrel and look at the bottom of the lug, they're different. The .204 is new and I'd be surprised if they build em both ways on a new caliber....

Old style is on the bottom, top is a pic of my .204 handi barrel...

As far as the trigger goes, if the store bought trigger is not to your liking, you can:

1. Take it to your local smithy where he'll spend an hour on it lightening it.

2.  Send it into H&R for a second barrel and a trigger job at the same time.

3. Do the trigger job yourself using Raynor's and Perklo's instructions.

As for ballistics...
Here's Hornady's 32gr Vmax ...

and the 40gr Vmax...

And the Remington 32gr & 40gr Accutip...

Hope this helps....
