I see that Honda is finally getting with the program and is putting disc brakes on the front of a few of their ATVs.

Why is taking the industry so long to dump those drum brakes? I've have nothing but trouble with drum brakes and nothing but good things to say about disc brakes.

I always have much more stopping power with the disc even when wet. Eventually the seals on those drum brakes fail and then you are sin for expensive repairs.

Comparing the design of the two styles, the disc looks of a much simpler design and it would seem to be cheaper to manufacture.

What braking setup do you prefer?

Of course hydraulic disc is an upgrade from drum and certainly from manually actuated drum. The new kid on the block though is the enclosed wet brake as used by Kawasaki and of late, Suzuki. Because of conditions in which we use our machines this seems to be the best system so far but even it has its downfall. When they decide to make this system hydraulic controlled in order to prevent fouled cables and actuator levers due to ice, rocks, mud, etc., then we'll have something but for now disc (either wet or dry) is the best we have available for my use.

I don't think it's the industry that's behind....just Honda!

About the Kawi brake system...me do nothing but ride mud and I have talked to several that have had problems with the kawi brakes.

264 Question? What type of problems have the kaws had and how did it happen? The rear break is wet and enclosed in the rear diff. If they had problems with the brake they had to have problems with the diff also. How did it happen?
